ABC 7: Ahmed Rehab Shares Hopes for Obama’s Speech on Middle East Policy

CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab says that he hopes the President’s speech represents a shift away from what he calls a “post-9/11″ narrative in American-Islamic relations.

”I think the President realizes that this is a historic opportunity for us to shift our foreign policy towards the Arab world, towards acknowledging the fact that it is the millions in the street calling for democracy and freedom, that are the real voice of that part of the world – and not the sporadic, peripheral, marginal, militant radical groups,” said Ahmed Rehab.

  1. Thats what you got from his speech?! I have much respect for you Ahmed and consider your appearances on American TV challenging pundits (especially on Fox News) as inspirational. But this is just patently ridiculous, Obama threw the Arabs and their aspirations under the bus, it was a descpicable speech with Israel – as ever – the centrepiece. It did not represent a shift in any way you look at it and was insulting to Muslims and Arabs in general. And yet, you and Muslim organisations in the US all hailed the speech. I know Muslims are under scrutiny in the US but please, a little dignity would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Rakin Sayed says:

Great article when i write about the middle eastern revolution i often use egypt as they as a country united reformed their own country and gave hope to the others fighting for freedom. They are a symbol of determination, and by them pushing to speed up governments decision it shows the power and determination the public have.
