The results of FIFA’s voting on the World Cup bids submitted by candidates for both 2018 and 2022 is ongoing as I write and should be announced shortly. The World Cup finals are the most watched event in the world, surpassing Olympic opening ceremonies and receiving as much as 90% viewership from populations with participating nations – an astronomical figure by any measure.
